Presenting Saudi’s Public Investment Fund experience in Project management

Areej Naqshbandi, Senior Director, Head of PMO at Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Board Member of the Saudi Facility Management Company, delivered a keynote address titled Driving Innovation through a Robust PMO Community at the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF). She highlighted the key role of PIF in driving economic growth and establishing major companies in the Kingdom.

Naqshabandi stressed the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, implementing robust risk management strategies, optimising time efficiency, enhancing communication, and documentation.

Naqshabandi elaborated on the founding of PIF and its contributions to funding numerous strategic projects that have strengthened Saudi Arabia’s economy. She emphasised that the fund has played a key role in preparing the Kingdom for membership in the G20, a group representing the world’s largest economies.

Mega Projects

Naqshabandi highlighted several flagship projects funded by PIF, including NEOM, a groundbreaking city spanning 26,500 square kilometres, designed around a circular economy and a zero-carbon emissions framework. She also spotlighted QIDDIYA, a transformative regional initiative dedicated to entertainment, sports, and culture, covering 376 square kilometres.

Another significant project funded by PIF is the Red Sea Destination, extending over 28,000 square kilometres. This initiative is poised to positively influence employment, tourism, and the hospitality industry.

Naqshabandi also discussed ROSHN, a pioneering endeavour focused on creating sustainable communities by developing modern and contemporary residential complexes. Additionally, she highlighted the efforts of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, which is revitalising the Diriyah project, home to one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites.
