Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) won the Mega Projects Award from the American Project Management Institute (PMI) for Route 2020 project.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA received the award from Jennifer Tharp, PMP, Cdir, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Project Management Institute on the sidelines of the 8th Dubai International Project Management Forum.
Route 2020 clinched PMI’s Mega Projects award in recognition of the exceptional competency demonstrated in applying the top practices standards and governance techniques adopted by the PMI. The award recognises the entities that deliver brilliant performance in project management practices.
Route 2020 covers extending the Dubai Metro Red line 15 km from Jebel Ali Station to the site of Expo 2020. The route encompasses an elevated track of 11.8 km and an underground rail of 3.2 km. the route includes 5 elevated stations and 2 underground stations.
The project serves densely populated areas such as The Route 2020 project serves densely populated areas such as The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investments Park and the Expo. The estimated population served by this route is about 270 thousand persons, and the journey from the Dubai Marina to the Expo takes 16 minutes.
With its new line Route 2020, Dubai Metro adds a future dimension to life in Dubai and enhances the city's profile as a global destination. It is considered an architectural masterpiece thanks to 7 stations that extend from Jebel Ali Station to Expo 2020 Station to connect people to their favourite places, homes, and workplaces, featuring the gorgeous urban landmarks of Dubai.
